What is JIT? (Views: 2330)

1        0

Just-in-time compilation involves turning the byte-code into code immediately executable by the CPU. The conversion is performed gradually during the program's execution. JIT compilation provides environment-specific optimization, runtime type safety, and assembly verification. To accomplish this, the JIT compiler examines the assembly metadata for any illegal accesses and handles violations appropriately.

JIT (just-in-time) is a CLR’s (Common Language Runtime) compiler. The JIT Compiler function is responsible for compiling a method’s IL code into native CPU instructions. Because the IL(intermediate language) is being compiled "just in time," this component of the CLR is frequently referred to as a JITter or a JIT compiler.

Just-in-time compiler is a compiler used to convert the Commmon Intermediate Language (CIL) code into native code (also called machine code) that is processed by machine.

A little description

While compiling of .NET program, its code is converted into Common Intermediate Language code that is done by Common Language Runtime.

But while executing the program this CIL code is converted into Machine code or Native code that is done by JIT Compiler.
